| Webmaster's Note: This page is dedicated to my mother, Bernice C. Vickio, who was a supervising nurse in charge of the maternity ward at the U. S. Engineer's Hospital at Los Alamos. She was there from September 1944 until March 1946. If anyone remembers my mother or any of the other doctors and nurses listed below, or if you know of anyone, including WAC's and other military personnel, who worked at the hospital, please let us know by "clicking" on FEEDBACK above. We know that several doctors and nurses at Los Alamos were recruited from the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. If anyone has information on this "connection" please contact us. |
| The U. S. Engineer's Hospital was first opened in early 1943 as the first contingents of personnel began to arrive at Los Alamos. Over the course of the war, the hospital grew in size as more and more people arrived. Very little information is available about the hospital and the people who worked there. |
