13-06  Bardolph A. Storaasli

Manhattan Project contribution:

Large magnet design/fabrication, and responsibility for Fort Knox Silver used in magnets fabricated at Allis Chalmers.

Manhattan Project Stories:

(not funny) Could not tell any relatives or friends when gone for extended times (.e.g. at Berkeley). Even wife could not reveal location of my travels/assignment. It was stressful for Ruth, as many thought there were serious marriage problems or even suspected a divorce.

Biography:

Bar passed away last spring ('02) at the age of 88 in Sequim Washington. His wife (my aunt) Ruth lives on and will soon be 88. Bar (as we all called him) spoke little of his years on the Manhattan Project, but in his later years, I asked him much and he was more forthcoming. I always looked up to my uncle Bardolf as he pursued a technical career as a EE from MIT (I also pursued an engineering career at NASA). Bar was in many ways my mentor, justifying a scientific technical career as there was much pressure for Bar and myself as oldest sons in a parsonage to pursue careers in the ministry.
