9-1  Samuel Allan Klein

The experiment went terribly wrong and Allan, who was 10 feet away, received what was then considered a lethal dose of neutron radiation.  Louis Slotin, a Canadian physicist who was performing the experiment, died 9 days later due to the radiation exposure.  All of the doctors at the Los Alamos hospital who cared for Allan handed him a death sentence.  But Allan was not ready to give up on life- he had too much life to live - too many things to accomplish - too many roads to travel.  He not only survived the accident but went on to live an extraordinary life.

Even though he was not yet fully recovered from the severe and debilitating effects of the radiation accident, he went on to Yale law school and ultimately practiced patent law.  He then applied his knowledge of law and science to work on many projects involving science and technology.
