Bryant was born Aug. 23, 1903 on a farm in Simms, TX, one of seven children. He attended Jacksonville Baptist Collage. He met his future wife Della Fay Pearman at the Baptist church. He worked as an ice delivery man, in a clothes cleaning shop, as a wall paper hanger and a lineman for the utility company. After completing a correspondence course in electrical engineering, he established an electrical contracting company. The scarcity of copper wire during the war forced a closure of his company and caused him to follow government jobs for employment. He followed jobs to Dallas, Waco, the Panama Canal Zone, Kansas City and Freeport, TX before moving to Kingston, TN where he lived while working at Oak Ridge. About half of the 1000 inhabitants of Kingston were Oak Ridge workers and their families. When the U.S. joined WWII on December 7, 1941, I was working for North American Aviation at the Los Angeles Airport.  I was in the instrument department but I had always wanted to fly, so I enlisted in the Air force on the 6th of May, 1942.  I was called up for basic training at Buckley Field for Pre Aviation cadets.  I was chosen to be a pilot but something happened and it didn’t work out, so I was sent to school to be an electrical specialist on B-29’s.  When that training was over my squad, the 393rd Heavy Bombardment Squadron, was separated from the rest of the group.   We were sent to Wendover, Utah for training on a secret super bomb.
