January 1945

Below is the complete telephone directory of the Clinton Engineer Works dated January 1945. There are approximately 5,000 names in this directory. Keep in mind that only a select few were privileged to have a phone. Most of the other 45,000 workers used pay phones in their living areas. This directory also includes a wealth of information about the infrastructure of Oak Ridge. This directory is an important part of our archives and was purchased with the assistance of several who contributed. In the next several weeks, we will begin adding these 5,000 names to our veteran tables so that families may search for a particular name. NOTE: IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN A HIGH ENOUGH RESOLUTION SO THAT THEY MAY BE VIEWED CLEARLY, IT WAS NECESSARY TO SACRIFICE SOME SPEED. EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN OPTIMIZED FOR THE WEB, THEY MAY STILL LOAD SLOWLY FOR THOSE USING DIAL-UP MODEMS. |
