Manhattan Project Heritage Preservation Assoc., Inc.
September 2004 Update
As we mentioned in our 3rd quarter newsletter, we will be
issuing monthly updates to advise our subscribers of new web
site content and other issues involving the historical
preservation of the Manhattan Project.
We have been very busy over the last 3 or 4 weeks adding
more than 100 pages of historical content and making ready
another 500 pages. Much will be happening on our web site
between now and the end of the year and we hope that you
will check back often.
New Web Site Content Announced
Unique Veteran Collections
One of our most important missions is the exhibiting of
primary source documents* (PSD's) related to the Manhattan
Project. (* primary source documents can be photos,
documents, letters, oral histories, etc.) This is becoming
very important in K-12 education and we are a major player
in this area. There are more PSD's associated with the
Manhattan Project than any other historical event.
Through our veteran outreach program, we have been fortunate
to receive wonderful collections of items from Manhattan
Project veterans. Thus we are able to exhibit material that
you will not find anywhere including the major museums.
Every PSD that we receive must be catalogued, scanned,
enhanced, optimized for the web, identified with keywords,
and then published to the web site. This month the following
collections have either been completed or are in process:
-
Cdr Frederick Ashworth Collection - Cdr. Ashworth was
Director of Operations on Tinian Island - 75 pages of
transcribed telephone conversations between he and Capt.
Parsons and other documents all related to Project
Alberta and dated from May 1945 to August 1945 -
Completed
-
Oak Ridge Military Police Yearbook - 1945 - 100+ Pages -

-
Lt. William King Collection - Military Intelligence and
MED Courier - Transported Fat man components from Los
Alamos to Tinian Island - In Process
-
Sgt. Carlo Silveri Collection - Carlo was a member of
the mounted military police at Los Alamos and Trinity -
You won't see many of these photos anywhere else

2005 Manhattan Project Commemorative Calendar
Print Date - October 5, 2004
Most, if not all of you, are aware of the high-quality
calendars that we have been providing each year in
commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Manhattan
Project. These calendars are printed on two-sided glossy
photo paper and mark important Manhattan Project dates that
occurred during that year. They also contain hi-resolution
photos for each of the months.
As with the 2003 and the 2004 calendars, we are requesting
that our subscribers consider purchasing a dedication space.
We have 3 pages devoted to dedications and they are priced
as follows: 2" x 2" for $30.00; 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" for $50.00;
and 4-3/4" x 1- 3/4" for $100. These calendars get wide
dissemination and this is an excellent way to honor a
Manhattan Project veteran. We have pre-sold a little more
than half of the available spaces. Please support this much
needed fund-raising calendar today!
New Interactive Message Board
Our new interactive message board is becoming quite popular.
We have over 120 messages posted thus far and the message
board has been viewed more than 5,000 times in September.
Several forums are available including some very harsh
comments about the use of the atomic bombs to end World War
II. We have special veteran categories set up for each
location as well as a general question and answer area. If
you have a question that you would like answered, post it
now!
Audio Oral Histories
At the present time, we have close to 60 hours of recorded
oral histories of Manhattan Project veterans. We are
awaiting some type of funding before we embark on
transcribing them.
In the meantime, we have purchased software that will allow
us to convert these analog audio cassettes into a digital
format suitable for the Internet. At some point in the next
couple of weeks, possibly sooner, we will post a sample oral
history from one of our veteran members. We will ask you at
that time to critique the process before we proceed to
convert all of them.
