"Jumbo" was the steel device designed to contain the plutonium if the implosion bomb did not detonate properly.  It was built in Ohio and carried to New Mexico by rail.  Because it weighed so much, 214 tons, railroad bridges along the way had to be reinforced.  By the time "Jumbo" had arrived at Trinity, the implosion program had solved many of its initial problems and "Jumbo" was never used.
