Special Engineer Detachment
Los Alamos, NM
"Scientists in Uniform"
| Web Master's Note: As the Manhattan Project gained momentum, it was evident to Groves that the machinery in place to recruit the best scientific minds in the country would fall drastically short of their projected needs. Authorized in 1943, the Special Engineer Detachment of the Manhattan District (the SED) was created to augment the scientific and engineering knowledge being demanded by all of the operational units of the Manhattan Project. |
