The Lingering Controversy

Web Master's Note:  That there has been a "lingering controversy" over whether or not the atomic bomb should have been dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is, perhaps an understatement.  However, this controversy has largely been cultivated by revisionist historians; a group whose mission has been to "re-write" historical events without proper thought being given to the prevailing American "psyche" at the time.

"My immediate thought was that this was like the hell I had always read about.  I had never seen anything which resembled it before.  But I thought that should there be a hell, this was it".  -  Hiroshima survivor

"My only regret on the use of the bomb (atomic bomb) was that, after the dust had cleared, the islands of Japan still existed"!  Capt. Robert L. Schaeffer, U. S. Marine Corp, V Amphibious Corp.; on the Island of Iwo Jima; August, 1945; Preparing for the Invasion of Japan.

I-001 "A Bright Light Filled the Plane"; Newsweek Magazine; July 24, 1995 - A startling account from the crew of the Enola Gay
I-002 "Why We Did It"; by Evan Thomas; Newsweek Magazine; July 24, 1995; Page 22 - A thorough analysis of the events that led to the decision to drop!  Web Master's Note: After poring over dozens and dozens of articles, this is by far the most objective treatment.
I-003 "Who's Sorry Now?; by Bill Powell; Newsweek Magazine; July 24, 1995; Page 38. - A commentary on Japan's inability to come to terms with its role in World War II.
I-004 "Historian's Letter to the Smithsonian" - This is the "infamous" letter that was sent to the curator's of the Smithsonian criticizing the Enola Gay exhibit.  This is an excellent example of how a few misguided individuals can wreak havoc upon the commemoration of a major historical event.  Web Master's Note:  It is amazes me to no end how well educated individuals who call themselves historians (and I use that term loosely here) can take it upon themselves to "revise" history to coincide with a set of present-day moral values.  How absurd! These 100 "so-called" historians are an embarrassment to American veterans everywhere!
I-005 "Exhibit Distorts Historical Context of the A-Bombing of Japan"; Charles Krauthammer August 21, 1994; Washington Post - One of the best commentaries on the controversial "Enola Gay Exhibit" at the Smithsonian.  Clearly shows the influence of the "so-called" historians and other insufferable, politically correct individuals; whose mission is to besmirch the efforts American veterans everywhere.
I-006 "The Bomb Hastened the End of World War II";  by Paul Elkins; Guest Column; Los Alamos Monitor; August 3, 1995.
I-007 A "no-nonsense" detailed analysis of the events leading up to the Decision to Use the Atomic Bomb by Louis Morton.  A must read for anyone looking for a thorough discussion of the topic with loads of references.
