| The Columbia Camp was built for the Federal Prison Industries to house federal prisoners from McNeil Island Federal Penitentiary. The prisoners, after being carefully screened, were used to tend and harvest the many orchards confiscated during the government takeover of the Hanford property. This information was provided by Burt Pierard. For a complete story of the Camp and more interesting information about wartime Hanford, please visit the Col-Hi/Richland High School Alumni site at: http://allgallery.tripod.com/0000s/ColumbiaCamp.html |
