We are, by far, the largest repository of on-line primary source documents related to the Manhattan Project...and our collection grows each month as we acquire new content.  Below is a listing of content which has been recently added or is in line to be added in 2004.  The 'status' column indicates the degree of completion.  Work is being done on this new content EVERY DAY.  Be sure to check the listing all the way to the bottom as sections are not completed in any particular order.  Please "click" on the date to go directly to the new section.  You can help us by sending or e-mailing photos, letters, documents, or any other Manhattan Project memorabilia that you might have.  Click HERE to find how!

Continuous Updating Web Site Statistics - We have subscribed to a new web site tracking system - Please take a look at where our visitors are coming from - More than 156,000 pages viewed in January alone.  
Audio Technology We are in the process of evaluating the addition of audio files to many of our web pages.  This is an excellent way for those visually impaired and for younger students to enjoy the history presented on this web site.  We welcome your comments.  
Continuous Updating Misc. Image Collections - Occasionally, members of our organization or visitors to our web site submit one, two and three photos or images of documents for the Manhattan Project Digital Library.  Since our by-laws require a minimum of four images to have a veteran collection established, we have created this special collection to house these important photos  
Continuous Updating Veteran Archives - Profiles of Manhattan Project Veterans - Military & Civilian - Submitted by the veteran themselves or a family member - This is an excellent way to give proper and lasting recognition to a veteran.  
Continuous Updating Veteran Message Board - Here you will find postings from veterans and family members who are searching for information about some person, place or thing.  
Continuous Updating Visitor's Questions - Here you will find questions that have been submitted by our visitors along with answers (in most cases).

      Sept. 4, 2004 Harold Agnew Collection - Dr Harold Agnew was a member of the Experimental Physics Division at Los Alamos.  In 1945, he was selected as member of Project Alberta (Destination Team) on Tinian Island.  Along with fellow scientists Luis Alvarez and Lawrence Johnston, Dr. Agnew flew as a scientific observer aboard the B-29 "The Great Artiste" during the first atomic mission to Hiroshima.  After the war he held several important posts including Director of the Los Alamos Laboratory.  Dr. Agnew has graciously provided the below photos.   In Process - Target: Sept. 2004 Lt. William A. King was a member of the army's counter-intelligence corps and was selected by Maj. Gen. Leslie Groves as a courier for the Manhattan Engineer District.  In that capacity, he was responsible for hand-carrying the plutonium core of the Fat Man bomb from Los Alamos to Tinian Island.   Target: Oct. 2004 Elwin H. Covey Collection - Elwin Covey was a protégé of Glenn Seaborg and was recruited from UC Berkeley to come to the Chemistry Division at the Met Lab.  He later relocated to the X-10 plant at Oak Ridge.  This is a fabulous collection of documents and references while he was with the Manhattan Project.   Target: Sept. 2004 Donald Collins Collection - Lt. Donald Collins was assigned to the Met Lab in the Health Physics Division.  He held several important assignments and was a member of the 14-man Atomic Bomb Investigative Team that entered Nagasaki after the war.  This multi-page documents recounts both his experiences on the Nagasaki team as well as with Operation Crossroads in 1946 - A must read! Jan. 20, 2004 Lyman C. Brenneman Collection - Lyman Brenneman was a member of the Special Engineer Detachment at Oak Ridge and was assigned to the K-25 Power Plant.  Very rare plot plan of the K-25 and K-27 plants as well as complete specifications for the 14 steam turbine generators at the power plant - these photos and documents were provided by Mr. Brenneman Completed
  In Process - Target: Nov. 2004 New section devoted to the history of the Special Engineer Detachment added to web site.  This new section will be developed over the next several months and will hi-light the history and the veterans who made up this elite group In Process (10% complete)
  Sept. 14, 2004 Cdr. Frederick L. Ashworth held the title of Director of Operations of Project A (Alberta) on Tinian Island.  Also known as the 'Destination Team', this group of 54 men were comprised of civilian scientists and engineers, members of the Special Engineer Detachment, and U. S. Navy personnel.  Their responsibility was to assemble and make ready for delivery the two atomic bombs known as Little Boy and Fat Man.  He also flew as the 'Weaponeer' onboard Bockscar and was responsible for arming the Fat Man bomb during the flight to Japan. Cdr. Ashworth retired as a 3-star Vice Admiral and held a variety of important positions including that of Commanding Officer of the 6th Fleet.  The below collection of documents include important memos and transcribed telephone conversations between him and Navy Capt. William Parson, deputy director at Los Alamos.  The time frame takes place between February and August 1945.  Joseph Papalia, a member of our Board of Directors, has played an important role in accumulating these important documents and digitizing them for our web site.   Feb. 12, 2004 David P. Rudolph  Collection - Pursuit of Plutonium - 25 Pages - Excellent perspective on plutonium from a veteran who was at the Met Lab and later at Los Alamos and the Trinity Site. Completed
  Feb. 15, 2004 Mallinckrodt Chemical - Uranium Division - The First 20 Years (1942 to 1962) - The complete story of Mallinckrodt's participation as the supplier of purified uranium to Oak Ridge.  Approx. 50 pages.  Provided by Dan Hughel  Completed
Jan. 23, 2004 Consolidated Mining & Smelting Company - Trail, BC - Canada - was involved in heavy-water production for the Manhattan Project Completed
  Target: Sept. 2004 Donald P. Ames Collection - Donald Ames was a member of the Special Engineer Detachment at the Metallurgical Laboratory at the Univ. of Chicago - His collection includes his experiences working with plutonium and radium. In Process (80% complete)
  Target: Sept. 2004 Fay L. Cunningham Collection - Fay Cunningham was a member of the Special Engineer Detachment and was assigned to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he worked on the development of crucibles for the reduction of uranium and plutonium at Los Alamos.  In 1946 he was attached to Operation Crossroads to monitor radiation. Target: Sept. 2004 "Report LA-1 - The Los Alamos Primer"  -  This important document was the famous lecture given by Robert Serber at Los Alamos about the theory behind the development of an atomic bomb - April 1943 - Very technical, but interesting. In Process (0% complete)
  Target: Sept. 2004 "The Smyth Report" - A General Account of the Development of Atomic Energy for Military Purposes Under the Auspices of the U. S. Government - 1940 to 1955 - 200 Pages - This is the official record of the Manhattan Project completed in August 1945. In Process (10% complete)
Target: Oct. 2004 "Random Recollections of Manhattan Project Days" by Burt Sauer - Many interesting stories of Los Alamos by Security Guard Burt Sauer.  Provided to us by Robert Schwerin, another security guard at Los Alamos. (Note: the Security Guards were the men assigned to guard the fissionable material at all times) - Approx. 30 pages.  
In Process -Target: Oct. 2004 Complete Oak Ridge Military Police Yearbook - 1946 - 100 Pages - Chronicles the history of the Military Police Detachment No. 1 at Oak Ridge.  This book provided by Robert Busby, whose father, Jack Busby, was a member of the military police.  (See Jack Busby's photos here) In Process (20% complete)
Target: Oct. 2004 Collection of documents from Lyman Brenneman, an Oak Ridge SED that was one of the few at the Oak Ridge power plant.  Includes many unique items about the power plant.  
Target: Nov. 2004 J. C. Hobbs Collection - J. C. Hobbs was a noted engineer and inventor and is credited with developing and patenting a crucial valve that was required for the successful completion of the atomic bomb project.  The valve and his patent was the subject of an intense legal battle after the war...which he eventually won.  These documents are an important piece of the history of the Manhattan Project.  They were provided to us by Mimi Hobbs Fittipaldi, granddaughter of J. C. Hobbs.  
     
Target: Dec. 2004 Certificate and other documents including 12 page story: "My Manhattan Adventure" - from John W. Bond at Los Alamos - Provided by his son, Walt Bond.  
Target: Jan. 2005 Many of our visitors have been impressed with the huge collection of Manhattan Project related letters and documents provided by the family of Paul Filipkowski ("click here").  We have an additional 250 items which will be added in October making this one tremendous collection of unique primary source documents.  
     
     
Target: Dec. 2004 Martin Webb Collection - Martin Webb was a Captain and was the Post Fiscal Officer at Los Alamos 1945 to 1946. - These photos and documents provided by Jonathan Deiss, grandson of Martin Webb and Mrs. Hazel Webb, wife of Martin Webb.  
Target: Nov. 2004 James Johnson Collection - James Johnson was with Project Camel at the Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake, CA. - These documents are very interesting.
