Dear Bill,

…Bobbie (my brother) announces that the Navy announces that anyone who wishes may obtain a release from the Service of his country at the same time he achieves his ensign rating.  It is hard to make out whether the majority of them are glad or sorry.

We all went to the beach yesterday.  Sam was back.  Dick had his meritorious citation which we had to keep twisting around because it was sewed too far toward the inside of his arm.  But we haven’t seen the rest of it yet.  It was extra cloudy & we kept throwing sweaters on & off as the sun went in & out, & there was quite a sand storm corresponding perhaps to the Texas tornado.  Not a fine day for the beach, but we cooked steaks & hot dogs & agreed we’d rather be there than anywhere.

I bought a wonderful magazine with a screaming girl on the cover at Penn Sta. news stand revealing in full the Secret of the Atomic Bomb!...

Why do you go away anyway?  Fran
