Dear Bill,

Direct from Brooklyn’s Shores to you.  And by the way no greater love hath anyone for anyone than he who arises from forgetful slumber, knowing he must return to a Burning couch, to answer the damned telephone.  Are you one or two hours behind us?  I dread going to bed tonight- a most unusual circumstance for me.  Never do I ever hope to have such a sunburn again.  I shall time myself from now on in each position.  It was so cool you would not have thought the sun was working at all.

Saturday aft. Bobbie & Ev & I raced down after work & arrived in time for a half hour of sun and a wonderful black, black thunderstorm that we sat on someone’s porch and watched sweep out across the ocean to a fog that rolled slowly in toward the shore.  When the first dramatics settled to a steady rain, we did exercises till we couldn’t think of any more and finally had to proceed thru the rest of the drizzle to the train.

We had intermittent rain today & we’re going to have intermittent rain tomorrow according to the radio.  Which is all to the good.  In the first place the mere idea of sun hurts at the moment and in the second place I have a beautiful new raincoat & it didn’t rain once last week.

Put a stamp on Dick Clausin’s bag & throw it in the mails why don’t you or is it in New Jersey?  Bobbie thought she had returned your “White Cliffs of Dover” & she is sorry to say that she has found it on her book shelf.  She gave it to me to send to you.  This diminishes your chances of ever seeing it again by about one half because wrapping it up & getting to the post office stands next to letter writing on my list of aversions.

I am glad that you’re still there or that you are somewhere.  You must be there if I talked with you last night.

                                  Fran
