Paul Filipkowski Collection

In Memory of Paul Filipkowski

Please 'Click' on the Play Button to  Hear About This Fabulous Collection

Paul Filipkowski was a former postal employee from Gainesville, Florida. He began researching the postal history of the Manhattan Project in the 1980's. As his interest expanded, his research and dedication led to the accumulation of an impressive collection of memorabilia covering all aspects of the Manhattan Project.  Paul was the author of numerous articles which appeared in various publications dealing with his hobby and philately.  Most of Paul's collection has been donated to the Los Alamos National Historic Museum and the Smithsonian Museum of American History.  Although Paul passed way in 1991, his passion to preserve the human history of the Manhattan Project lives on.  This collection was made possible through the tireless efforts of Joe Papalia, a noted historian and collector, who has spent countless hours scanning and transmitting the below documents to us for presentation here.

This collection contains an impressive series of correspondence from a number of veterans of the Manhattan Project.  Many of these letters offer insight into little known aspects of America's atomic bomb development effort during World War II.
