Capt. Nelson C. Baker

Commanding Officer - Special Engineer Detachment - Los Alamos

1st Lt. (later Captain) Baker arrived at Los Alamos in August 1944 after having served two years with the 16th Armored Engineer Battalion of the 1st Armored Division in North Africa and Italy.  His first assignment was as personnel and executive officer of the Special Engineer Detachment under Capt. (later Major) Thera O. Palmer, Jr.
