Delbert F. Johnson

Special Engineer Detachment - Los Alamos

Pvt. Delbert F. Johnson was assigned to the Los Alamos Special Engineer Detachment on July 7, 1945 and was immediately transferred to the Trinity Base Camp near Alamogordo, NM.  During the first atomic bomb test on July 16, 1945, Mr. Johnson was stationed just 7 miles from ground zero.  After the blast, he was one of the first men to enter the crater.
