Sgt. Carlo Silveri

Mounted Military Police - Los Alamos & Trinity Site

Carlo Silveri was one of the first men to arrive at Los Alamos in April 1943 as part of the initial contingent of military police.  This first group was the 1st Military Police Detachment - Mounted and originated at Fort Riley, Kansas.  The first contingent of 100 or so men traveled through Camp Wolters, Texas on their way to Los Alamos.  Mr. Silveri was also a member of the first 12-man group that traveled to the Trinity Test Site to establish a secure test zone.  Mr. Silveri has graciously submitted the below referenced photos and documents to help students and researchers better understand the origination of the military police at Los Alamos.  Carlo is presently 88 years of age and recently attended the 2004 Manhattan Project reunion that was help in upstate New York.  Special thanks to Karen McCarthy, Carlo's niece, and her husband, Bob, for digitizing the photos and providing them to us for inclusion here.  (Note: We are trying to identify several of the men in these photographs - if you recognize anyone please contact us at support@mphpa.org)
