Operation Crossroads Cachet - U.S.S. Burleson (APA-67) Attack Transport - Early part of 1946, ship was converted to an animal transporter after being assigned to Operation Crossroads. She transported thousands of animals to Bikini for study on exposure to the atomic bomb blast. On 9/14/46, returned to the States with the animals. The animals were sent to Bethesda, MD for special study. Decommissioned 11/46. Postmarked June 14, 1946 |
