Sgt. Abe Spitzer Collection

Sgt. Abe Spitzer was the radio operator regularly assigned to The Great Artiste and on the B-29 'Bockscar' on its historic mission to drop a second atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki.  The images below are taken from Sgt. Spitzer's personal diary which he kept in meticulous detail during his time on Tinian Island including a thorough account of the Nagasaki mission.  Also included are personal details about other members of the crew in his own handwriting.  Some unique information here!  This book was provided to us by Joan Hinterbichler, the daughter of Abe Spitzer. (Note: as you go through the diary, you will notice where words and phrases have been cut out as a result of the censors work in removing 'sensitive' information.)
